9 Antique towns in ‘election watch list’
Wed, 10/03/10 – 12:40 | 0
SAN JOSE, Antique – Sixteen days before the start of the campaign period for local elective posts, nine towns in Antique have been placed under the election watch list of the Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO).

Under Category 1 are the towns of Anini-y, Barbaza, Caluya, Lauan, Libertad, Tibiao and Valderama.

These are areas with high probability for politically-motivated and election-related violent incidents, have intense partisan rivalry, and possibly, have partisan armed groups.

The municipalities of San Remegio and Sibalom are under Category 2.

These are areas with serious armed threats; majority of their barangays are insurgent-affected; have previous election-related violent incidents perpetrated by the local communist movement; and have very active guerrilla zones.

According to Senior Supt. Ruperto Floro, newly APPO director, the provincial police is coordinating with the Philippine Army to keep these towns peaceful.
